Author Guidelines

Kenyan Journal of Nursing & Midwifery publishes quality literature reviews and original researches in Nursing, Midwifery and other Health issues.

Articles should normally not exceed 4000 words. Articles that exceed 5000 words would require notification of the journal administrator.

All articles are submitted online. You must be a user to be able to submit articles. Start the process by registering as an author on http://www.kjnm.co.ke/index.php/kjnm/user/register.

If you are already registered as a user, click on http://www.kjnm.co.ke/index.php/kjnm/about/submissions#onlineSubmissions to start the submission process.

If you have any queries relating to potential articles, please contact the journal Administrator on email administrator@kjnm.co.ke.

Otherwise, once you have submitted, you will receive galley proofs for correction before publication.

Outline of Articles

Title page

The title page should carry: title of article; names of the authors (with first names); institutional affiliation of each author; full details of each author’s current appointment; name and address and contact details (including email address) of the author responsible for correspondence. Please give an email address that you are happy to use for publication also.

NOTE: Author identification should appear only on the title page for confidentiality.

Abstract

An abstract  of between  150-200 words must be submitted giving a brief outline of the content of the article, including major findings. The abstract subheadings should be as follows: Introduction, Methods, Findings, Conclusion, Key words

Headings

Relevant subheadings should be used to structure the article. We recommend the following headings: Introduction( should capture background,objectives and study justification)  , Methods , Findings, Conclusion and Recommendations, Relevance to Nursing and Midwifery

Conclusions

Your conclusions should be succinct and logically ordered. Identify gaps in present knowledge and suggest future initiatives.

Key points

You must supply 4–6 full sentences that adequately summarize the major themes of your article.

Tables and illustrations

As a rough guide, there should be a table or illustration every 800 words. It is helpful if authors can provide suitable photographs or slides (preferably colour), In the case of line drawings, any rough drawings you provide can be transformed into finished artwork by our artists. This applies to diagrams and charts as well. Please ensure that all tables and figures are cited in the text.

 

Referencing

Kenyan Journal of Nursing & Midwifery uses APA (American Psychological Association) style of referencing. You are advised to study and apply APA style in your article. The following is just a snap preview of the use of APA style

  • When quoting directly or indirectly from a source, the source must be acknowledged in the text by author name and year of publication.
    • Examples: ….Cohen and Lotan (2014) argue that professional… or … Professional…(Cohen & Lotan, 2014)
  • Then, at the end of the article, you are required to provide the full bibliographic information for each source. References must be listed in alphabetical order by author.
    • Example:

Germann, F., Ebbes, P., & Grewal, R. (2015). The chief marketing officer matters! Journal of Marketing, 79 (3), 1- 22. http://dx.doi.org/10.1509/jm.14.0244.

 

References should be the newest available for your needs, unless it is a noted historical reference.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a font size 12, Times New Roman; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text and article adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

This journal charges the following author fees.

Article Submission: 1000.00 (KES)

Authors are required to pay an Article Submission Fee as part of the submission process to contribute to review costs.

Article Publication: 15000.00 (KES)

once your  paper has been accepted for publication, you will be required to pay for  Article Publication Fee to cover for the publications costs.
